The Vector is a fantastic high altitude altimeter/watch with an altitude range: -500m to 9,000m and resolution of 5m. It tells the time, has three alarms and a stopwatch, a barometer, a thermometer and a compass!
In addition it can show vertical ascent/descent rate in m/min or ft/min and has a logbook history for cumulative ascent/descent measurements.
Unlike some other altimeters the battery can be changed by yourself.
It is available in various colours some of which have a standard positive face (ie black numbers on a light background) and some of which have a negative face (ie light numbers on a black background). The latter type are supposed to be easier to see against snow and in bright sunlight. These face options are designated Positive (Pos) and Negative (Neg) respectively.
The Vector's plastic strap and plastic case make it very lightweight (only 54g) and also means it won't stick to skin when its really cold. The basic functions are simple to operate and understand, though some of the more advanced stuff will probably only become familiar with regular use. It and the Altimax are probably the best practical mountaineering watches out of the Suunto range.
