DVDs

There are some brilliant climbing films out there and many of them feature on this website. They are divided roughly into those featuring mainly rock, mainly bouldering and mainly ice, with additional categories of mainly non climbing, historical and instructional. There is quite a bit of crossover between these categories so you may need to look on several pages to find the DVD you want but if you know the title you can always use the search facility towards the top right corner of this page.

Within each category, DVDs are listed alphabetically but usually the year of release is given so that you can identify the most recent ones.

Mainly Rock Climbing

Films that feature mainly rock climbing, but expect some bouldering and maybe even some ice climbing.

Mainly Bouldering

Films that feature mainly bouldering but the odd rope may put in an appearance here and there, not to mention a slackline.

Mainly Icy

Films featuring ice climbing and/or alpine and greater ranges mountaineering.

Mainly Not So Steep

Films featuring mountain rescue, fell running, walking or just beautiful mountain scenery.

Historical

Climbing films made so long ago that they are almost antique (in climbing terms).

Feature Films

Full length climbing films with a tale to tell.

Comedy

Climbing films that will make you laugh (intentionally)!

Instructional

Instructional films on all aspects of climbing and mountaineering.

Originally, to protect the US film industry, DVD players were supplied in three types, Asian, American and European.

Once, all UK DVDs were supplied in Region 2 format which was suitable for European DVD Players, but possibly not for American ones unless they were multi-region players. It was probably best not to order DVDs from Europe if you lived in America.

However, all new DVDs and DVD players being made are now international format, so if you have a fairly new player you should not have a problem viewing any new DVDs wherever you live in the world.
