Magazines, Calendars & Ephemera

Mountain Charts, Calendars, Magazines and other unclassifiable printed stuff.

Magazines: The magazines listed are those currently available in the UK, most of which we stock. In addition to these, the SMC, CC, FRCC and various other mountaineering clubs also produce newsletters and journals; generally you need to be a member to receive these.

BMC - Summit

The official organ of the British Mountaineering Council, the governing body of climbing and mountaineering in England and Wales. Available free with membership of the BMC or an affiliated club.

MCofS - Scottish Mountaineer

The official organ of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland which does a similar job to the BMC north of the border. Available free with membership of the MCofS or an affiliated club.

Greenshires - Climb Magazine

£3.95

One of the two main UK Climbing magazines. Mixture of chat and good articles.

Comag - Climber Magazine

£3.90

The other main UK Climbing magazine. Tends to be better than Climb in reporting area news.

TACit Press - The Angry Corrie

£1.00

Not climbing, but this thoroughly scurrilous Private Eye-style round up of the latest news from Munro land is well worth a look.

Climbing - Climbing Magazine

£3.99

A shadow of its former self (it's about half as fat as it used to be) but still the USA's major climbing mag. Less predictable covers than the UK mags make you sit up and take notice a bit.

Big Stone Publishing - Rock & Ice Magazine

£4.99

America's "other" climbing mag. Not quite as "New Kid on the Block" as it used to be, but still fairly irreverent and slightly less serious than its competition.

Alpinist - Alpinist

£8.95

Superbly produced and extremely classy American quarterly magazine devoted to alpine and greater ranges mountaineering.

Vertical - Vertical Magazine (UK Edition)

£5.00

An English language magazine with a very international flavour. Much devoted to alpinism but other types of climbing also figure prominently - well worth seeking out if you haven't seen a copy.

Mountain Charts:

Harvey - Munro & Corbett Chart

£6.95

This nicely designed chart shows and lists all Munros (mountains over 3000ft), Corbetts (over 2500ft), Grahams and Donalds (over 2000ft). A selection of other hills are named for information. There is space for recording your date of ascent.

Posters:

Ground Up - Gogarth Poster

£6.95

An A2 sized glossy poster print of Gogarth's Main Cliff with route lines and grades.
