Modern tubular wind in ice screws have transformed winter climbing. Gone are the days of having to insert the pick of your axe into the ice screw hanger and using the full length of your axe shaft to lever it round quarter of a turn. Modern screws come equipped with a handle and can be wound in in seconds by thumb and forefinger alone. Naturally it helps if the screw is razor sharp - we are pleased to offer a reasonably priced sharpening service for most modern steel screws.
