Extremely cunning snowshoes that should be ideal for many snowshoers and get round the need to carry both crampons and snowshoes.
They consist of an aluminium framed, rubber sheeted snowshoe with a very light weight strap-on eight point crampon that clips firmly into the snowshoe with what Kahtoola term "Skyhook® step-in technology". This can be done whilst wearing the crampons so you can be walking in the crampons, snow gets a bit deep - just step straight into the snow shoes and carry on walking - amazing!
The clip in mechanism works by pulling a toggle on the outside edge of the snowshoe until it clicks, then step in and pull a release toggle on the inside edge of the snowshoe. To step out, simply reverse the process.
They crampon section adjusts in width so that it will fit from a UK 4 to a UK 13 (Continental 37 - 48/49) and can be fitted to both running/approach shoes and boots.
There are two lengths available:
24" (61cm), 1786g/pair. Kahtoola describe these as their everyday snowshoe. We feel they are more suited to smaller, lighter people and occasional users who don't want to be burdened with unnecessary weight.
28" (71cm), 1984g/pair. Designed for use in deep powder snow where their extra length provides added flotation. They are probably also the best choice for larger heavier people.
