Like its predecessor, the XGK EX boasts unrivalled performance, dependably burning a greater variety of liquid fuels (petrol, parafin, and deisel) than any stove on the market. It also features a new flexible fuel line that allows it to pack smaller than ever, as well as retractable legs and large pot supports for superior stability. MSR's cheapest multifuel stove. It is ideal for areas where fuel quality is good such as Europe and North America. Attempts to use it on modified kerosene based fuels (eg A1 Jet which is aircraft fuel commonly used in Greenland and other areas of the Arctic) and dirty fuels have resulted in a blocked stove - an XGK is a much better bet for this sort of thing.

The Whisperlite is constructed from stainless steel, lightweight aluminum and brass for durability. It is much more compact than the XGK. Cleaning is easy due to a "shaker jet" and in situ fuel pipe cleaning cable.

Works best on White Gas (Coleman Fuel) but also burns petrol, and kerosene (parafin) - but see above. Fits inside the 1.5 litre pot.

MSR's newest multifuel stove is an attempt to meld the reliability of the XGK with the simmering adjustment of the Whisperlite. The result is a fine stove with brilliant simmering adjustment, but in our experience it is a little more prone to blockage and slightly less easy to maintain than an XGK which remains the best choice for reliable hours of snow-melting. However the Dragonfly's simmering ability will sell it for many people. It burns most fuels and will cope with the dirty and poor quality fuels that are often encountered overseas. It is constructed from stainless steel, lightweight aluminum and brass for durability. Cleaning is easy due to a "shaker jet" and in situ fuel pipe cleaning cable. Fits inside the 2 litre pot.

Works best on White Gas (Coleman Fuel) but also burns petrol, kerosene (parafin) and diesel.

The plunger is the whole plunger unit including washer, complete with a new one piece collar that holds it into the stove. Most people who replace this do so because they have an old style two part collar which has an annoying habit of falling to bits now and then. The plungers are common to all stoves, ie a Dragonfly, XGK, and Whisperlite of the same vintage take the same plunger.

There are four types of replacement plunger - it is important to get the correct one as they are not interchangable. They are:
Duraseal: The new pump introduced in 2004 (418809)
Flanged: This was standard from 2002 - 2003 (318638) - originally this had a leather washer but recent examples have had rubber ones.
Original: This fits all stoves made prior to 2002. It has no flanges but does have a collar. It is red in colour. Sorry - no longer available.
Really Old: This is as per the Original but has no collar (ie you need to have not lost the two part collar) and fits all stoves made prior to 2002. It has no flanges and is black in colour.

If your pumped has failed/broken under normal use it should be replaced FOC by the distributor First Ascent.
