MACPAC BABY CARRIERS

Backpack type baby carriers are not suitable for children under six months of age as they have trouble supporting their necks for long periods prior to this age. They are never suitable for high mountain activities for two reasons. Firstly a small baby sitting still feels the cold considerably more than a fully grown adult toiling uphill carrying a small baby. Secondly if the adult stumbles and slips a baby is considerably more prone to damage than the adult (consider using trekking poles to prevent stumbles). Ski-ing with a baby carrier is definitely a no-no and is banned in most ski resorts.

A child can be carried in a backpack until they are prepared to walk, though in the case of some lazier individuals you may not be prepared to wait that long - they can get very heavy!

Macpac baby carriers do not come with legs to turn them into high-chairs. This is because it is quite easy for babies to knock such chairs over simply by swinging their weight around. We suggest that if you would like the carrier to be freestanding for lengthy periods then you consider taking with you a long 120cm sling and a screwgate karabiner and then you can attach one of the haul loops to a tree or fence etc so that the carrier cannot be knocked over.

Superb baby carrier that stands head and shoulders above the opposition. Its most important feature is an easily adjustable back that means it can be instantly adjusted between two partners of unequal height. Carrying a badly adjusted carrier can be harmful to your back so beware of those that take an age to adjust. Other important features include large storage capacity, comfortable child's safety harness and child's height adjustment.

Standard size fits most adults up to 6' 3".

This new version has greater padding, both for adult and child and several other useful new features such as extra pockets and even a rear view mirror!

Suitable for children from about 6 months until they are too heavy. The Possum is designed to carry a weight of appx. 17.5kg. There are a couple of facts to consider though. What weight will the carrier feel comfortable carrying and is the child still happy to be carried? In some instances the child would rather be out running around.

NB: There has been a small fault with the cheststrap on a few 2006 model Possums and Vamooses. If you have bought one of these carriers from us recently and the chest strap slips under load, please contact us for a free replacement section that will fix this problem.

The only carrier better than a Possum is a Vamoose! All the features of the Possum but also includes the last word in luxury padded hipbelts, zip off rear mini-rucksack (so one of you can dash off to Boots for more Pampers and babywipes etc), and Aztec fabric as per Macpac's rucksack range.

The Vamoose now includes a Rainbow & Sombrero raincover system at no extra charge.

To determine which harness size is appropriate for you, measure your back length from the top of your shoulder to the top of your hip bone and compare this to the following chart. Your height will also be a determining factor but is not an exact guide.

The Sombrero is a sunshade/showerguard that fits simply to the Possum or the Vamoose and stores inside either. Includes a fold away clear face-rainguard. The Rainbow is a complete raincover for either the Possum or the Vamoose - it must be used in conjunction with Sombrero.
