Simple mitts it is true, but incredibly light and effective.

An ideal spare mitt and perfect for warming up cold hands at the top of a long ice pitch. Also great for winter hill walking and ski touring.

Sizing is on the small side and most men would take XL and most women L. XXL is very voluminous and is actually designed as an overmitt to go over a pair of standard Buffalo Mitts.

Top Tip: To stop these ultralight Buffalo Mitts from blowing away, pierce a small hole at the wrist end and tie a length of 3mm elastic cord through it, then make a loop in the other end of the cord that is slightly larger than your wrist and slightly smaller than your hand. The idea is to end up with about 10cm of cord between the mitt and the loop. When you put the mitt on, stretch the loop over your hand onto your wrist - when you take the mitt off it will simply dangle. If it gets in the way then just pull the elastic loop up above the elbow. If you take the mitts off completely the loops can be used to clip them temporarily to something like a rucksack.

Lightweight midthermal gloves with a waterproof breathable bonded membrane sandwiched in the between the outer and inner layer. Due to the limitations of the technology the fit is best described as basic, but this is, as far as we know, the only glove of its type and does the job! The waterproof membrane is 100% waterproof and breathable Porelle. Typical WVP 65% Inner glove: 98% merino wool 2% elastane. Outer glove: 98% nylon, 2% lycra with grippy rubber bobbles on fingers and palm.

Traditional heavy duty wool mitts, made well oversized and then boiled to shrink to a tough thick woollen felt. As used by Scottish winter climbers, alpinists, and himalayan expeditioneers for over 50 years.

Not waterproof, but when used in snow, an icy skin forms over the mitt which is very effective at keeping hands warm. If you are an impecunious winter climber looking for the one glove that will do everything (as cheaply as possible) then this is about as close as you'll get!
