|  Rab Carrington: has been one of Britain's top mountaineers for a lot longer than he has been making sleeping bags and he has been making bags for nearly twenty years. His experience of climbing in such inhospitable climates as found in the Himalayas, Patagonia and Scotland in winter has resulted in production of what is rightly recognised as one of the finest and most specialised range of bags on the market. Rab has recently retired but the Rab brand lives on!Sizing: Please note that all these sleeping bags are generously sized. They are definitely not budget bags! Special lengths are available for most bags to order. Unfortunately Rab have had to drop special widths and no zip options as they are no longer economic to produce but there is a zip-in Expansion Panel available to add width. You can pick your options below. Please note that extra short bags merely have the extra down redistributed - not taken away - so you end up with a warmer bag than the standard model. Extra long bags have about 10% extra down added to fill the extra length.The term right-hand zip means the zip is on your right as you are lying in the bag. In general right-handed people prefer a left-hand zip and left-handed people a right-hand zip, though it isn't really that important. NB Please also note, that whilst we are prepared to accept the return of unused standard bags, we cannot do this for any specials ie Extra Long, Extra Short etc. Please do not order these bags unless you are sure that it is what you want. Non-standard bags may take anything from 2 to 8 weeks to make. Repairs and Bespoke Work: can also be undertaken please contact Rab. Weights: are approximate. You will notice that they may vary from those published in the catalogue. The reason why weights may vary is that the weight of each bag consists of three components: the Outer Fabric, the Down, and the Inner Fabric (ie the baffles). Whilst the weights of the Outer Fabric and the Down are virtually always the same, Rab try to use the lightest suitable fabric that they can for the hidden components of the bag such as the baffles. However if such fabric is temporarily unavailable, they will use the next lightest suitable fabric that they can get, rather than not make any bags at all, and this can increase the weight of a bag by as much as 100g. Another factor is that the baffles are all filled by hand and, if having filled all the baffles bar one, the filler realises that he is a bit short of down he will just add a little more, rather than redistribute it all. The weight of the stuff sack is not included in the bag weight so allow an extra 50g or so for this. Down Quality: is the best in the world. The down is sourced in Eastern Europe and it is cleaned thoroughly before use, so removing nearly all of the "bird dandruff" that makes some people allergic to down. This is not always the case with many Far Eastern sourced bags (especially cheaper ones). In addition all the bags are filled to order in Derbyshire (as opposed to being filled in the Far East - often in humid conditions - and then spending months closely packed in a warehouse and on a container ship). By keeping our stock levels low, Needle Sports's Rab bags are as freshly filled as they can be and are never kept densely packed. Fill-Power: is a measure of the loft that the fill produces. Due to different measuring methods used, USA fill powers show higher figures than European ones for the same down. Here is an approximate comparison chart for fill powers:

| | Bivi Bags & Keeping Your Bag Dry: Sleeping bags can only get wet two ways, from the outside and the inside. For the outside we highly recommend Rab's Survival Zone which is light enough to carry virtually anywhere. It can be used as a bivi bag in the fiercest of of weather but also just as a bag outer to prevent condensation problems when sharing a tent. The main way that the inside of the bag gets wet is when you get into it with wet clothes on. Follow the above link for a simple solution. If your bag does get wet, don't panic, put it in a tumble drier on a low setting with an old training shoe or similar to knock it about a bit. When done, air well. Summit Range : | | |
The Summit range has been designed for climbers and mountaineers who require the warmest and lightest sleeping bags for extended use in extreme climates and exposed bivouacs. Each bag features a rip-stop Endurance outer and hood cowl that is snow proof, windproof and highly breathable; protecting the down from moisture and spindrift that can build up inside tents, bivi-shelters and snow holes. Trapezoid baffling and differential fill ensures maximum insulation and eliminates down shift that can cause cold spots. The top side of the bag has a 96% White Polish goose down fill with an enormous 750+ Fill Power; the underside of the bag, where the down will be compressed against an insulation mat, has a 90% goose down fill with a 660+ Fill Power. Newly sculpted hood cowl with deeper sectioned head area provides greater efficiency of insulation around this crucial area. Down-filled 'draught strip' around the cowl provides a secure and soft feel around the face for increased protection from unwanted draughts. One-handed draw cord system allows simple operation of the toggles. Improved 3D neck baffle, with one-handed pull drawstring and press stud closure to trap warm air in and keep cold draughts out. (NB: the above does not all apply to the 300 - see below).

| | The Quantum Sleeping Bag Range has been developed for eventists, cycle tourers, backpackers and alpinists and feature the lightest narrow box wall construction, ultra-lightweight Pertex Quantum shells, and the finest 96% white Polish Goosedown (750+ fill power). These are the lightest warmth to weight ratio bags in the world. Outer Fabric: Please note that in addition to the standard outer Quantum fabric, breathable water-resistant Endurance is available at an extra cost as shown. This is particularly suitable for alpine activities where condensation in bivi-bags and tents may cause problems. However Endurance covered bags are a bit heavier and will need airing more often. These bags are also available in any fill, from 200g to 1000g - to order.

The Ladakh sleeping bag range offers ultimate performance with minimum weight, and incorporates Pertex 'Microlight' shells with the same advanced trapezoid baffling (except 400) used in the Summit Range to increase thermal efficiency. A high quality 90% Goose Down filling with a 660+ Fill Power provides efficient insulation from the cold. Dimenions: 230 x 80cm.
NB Ladakh bags are now made in China and the zip is incompatable with the zips used in older Ladakhs, Quantum and Summit Bags.
