Nalgene Lexan bottles are made from poly carbonate and are not only virtually unbreakable but also leakproof and do not make your drink taste of plastic. Wide mouth ones are easier to fill (especially with snow or powdered drink supplements) but tend to slop down your chest when you drink out of them, particularly as you get older. Narrow necked bottles are easier to drink out of but harder to fill. For expedition use go for widemouth ones. The lids are permanantly fixed to the bottles. The Waterbelt is a water bag with a variety of attachment possibilities. It can be worn like a money belt around your waist or attached to the exterior of your backpack. It has a capacity of 2 litres and is a good alternative to plastic or aluminum-drinking bottle. An empty Waterbelt takes up very little space and can easily be stowed away inside your pack. It can be converted into a hydration system by using an Ortlieb Drinking Tube (see below).

The Shower Valve can be put onto all Ortlieb Water Bags as well as Water Sacks and the Water Belt. Remove the dust cap, put on the shower valve, and open the tap, shower! The contents of the Water Sack are enough for a pleasant shower. Can also be used as a garden shower or watering can.

Steripen purifies water using ultraviolet (UV) light. It destroys viruses, bacteria and protozoa including giardia and cryptosporidium in seconds by simply immersing the pen in the water for a few seconds - see the Steripen Website for more details.
