DMM Super Couloir Harness Description

  • Brand : DMM
  • Season :
  • Code : DMM SC
  • Packaged Weight : 0.49KG
  • This really should be called the Super Alpine harness - a very good ultralight winter, alpine and expedition harness that can be put on and taken off while wearing crampons or skis without having to lift your feet off the ground - an important safety consideration on steep terrain.

It is also fine for trad rock climbing unless you tend to do a lot of falling/hanging belays/abseiling, in which case there are more comfortable harnesses available.

    • Five gear loops.
    • Quick release leg elastics.
    • Central belay loop.
    • Very, very light, with very light (thin) waist padding.

NB The above sizes have changed as of 2009 so if replacing an old harness it is important to check the actual waist size that you require. There is quite a lot of overlap in these sizes so pick a size which you are in the middle to lower third of.

This has been my go to harness for alpine, expedition and winter climbing for a number of years now. Goes on "nappy" style so no need to balance on one foot while trying to thread a large winter boot and crampon through leg loops in typical Scottish conditions. Very hard wearing and easy to put on with gloves/mitts. Not great for use with ice clippers if thats your preferred way of racking screws, etc. - the gear loops get in the way. Will be getting another one of these when the one I have needs replacing.

I completely agree with Paul's review - this is an excellent winter climbing harness, very light and easy to put on in awkward situations. I use ice clippers on mine without any real problems beyond the usual one of "winter climbing being a constant battle with ones equipment".
