At a stance, it is common (but potentially dangerous) to climb above the anchors to clip the first runner whilst still connected with a cow's tail. In these circumstances a factor 2 fall onto the belay can be produced and really your connection to the belay should be dynamic rather than static, ie you should clip in with a length of dynamic rope rather than a sling, particularly a Dyneema sling, as there is a significant risk of an anchor point being ripped out or the sling breaking.

However, using a short length of rope with knots is not ideal as the result is very bulky and also the knots may come undone, hence this rope lanyard with sewn loops, a much neater solution.

The 50cm version is designed to clip into a belay and set up a top rope/lower off at the end of a single pitch sport route.
