La Sportiva was founded in 1928 when Narciso Delladio hand-crafted wooden-soled leather boots for the foresters and farmers of the Fassa and Fiemme valleys in the Italian Dolomites. After the war, the demand for boots increased obliging Narciso to hire new workers: the good name of "Calzoleria Sportiva" crossed the boarders of the valleys. Starting from here the La Sportiva’s history continued to grow. Now the firm produces in Fiemme Valley boots and shoes for all kind of outdoor activities from climbing and mountaineering, categories in which La Sportiva has a large market share, to fell running and trekking. Recently the company ventured into the ski mountaineering market and also into clothing for running, ski mountaineering and climbing. La Sportiva produces much of what they make at their headquarters at Ziano di Fiemme and is distributed to more then seventy countries worldwide.
