SAVING WEIGHT IN THE MOUNTAINS
Going lightweight is always pleasant be it soloing on grit with nothing more than shoes, chalkbag and the clothes you stand up in, or running over the high Lakeland fells with little more than a bumbag, but where it really counts is at altitude.
Once the air thins, every gram feels like a kilogram and shaving grams is the name of the game, be it sawing off your toothbrush handle or removing all the excess webbing from your rucksack. This is an area where modern materials and manufacturing processes are making leaps and bounds and we can only expect things to get both lighter and stronger in the future.
Meanwhile, here, for the alpinists and greater ranges exponents amongst you are some of the most recent bits of lightweight gear we have received to date - put this lot together for your next high altitude trip and it really will make a difference!
