Most of the devices listed below are intended to be either automatically locking or semi-automatically locking devices for use when sport climbing using a single rope. As such climbs are nearly all single pitch, weight is not so much of an issue as it is when trad climbing. Purpose designed belay karabiners prevent dangerous cross loading of the karabiner and it is well worth having one.
