This climbing guide to Vietnam covers Ha Long Bay, Huu Lung, Quoc Oai and Mai Chau, which are all in the north of the country.

Ha Long Bay is Vietnam’s largest climbing area with world-class sport climbing and deep water soloing (DWS). There are over 350 routes around the Cat Ba Island archipelago, which include sport climbing at five crags on Cat Ba Island, sport and some trad climbing at thirteen island crags in Ha Long Bay, and deep water soloing at twenty island crags in Ha Long Bay. Travel and accommodation information for Cat Ba Island is included.

The other three areas described, Huu Lung, Quoc Oai, and Mai Chau, are inland, dotted around the capital of Hanoi (Quoc Oai is almost in Hanoi and is not marked on the coverage map). Huu Lung is Vietnam’s second largest climbing area with over 120 routes.

The guidebook describes over 500 sport, DWS, and trad routes found in Vietnam. There is a great variety of climbing, with routes from F4+ to F8b, all on excellent limestone rock.

Illustrated with full colour phototopos and action photos throughout.
