Michael Piola's topo guides to (mainly) bolted rock climbs on the high peaks of the Mt Blanc Range were once very popular but have long been out of print.
Recently he has requipped many of the routes and here is the first of what seems likely to be a series of guides.
Translating as "The Other Side of the Aiguilles", this is a guide covering climbs on the Vallée Blanche/Mer de Glace side (ie east side) of the Chamonix Aiguilles, from the Aiguille de Plan to Montenvers Railway Station.
The guide is in English throughout and features over 250 routes ranging from 5+ to 8a. These are climbs that are easily accessible from Montenvers and with the Montenvers Hotel and Requin and Envers Huts to use as bases. A large number of the climbs are described using excellent clear line topos, and a good range of grades is covered and most of the routes are bolted and equipped for abseil descents.
