This section of the famous GR5 footpath runs the full length of the French Alps from the shore of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) to the Côte d'Azur at Nice (to do the full path you have to start a little further north, at the Hook of Holland!). It is 420 miles (674km) long and takes around 31 days so most walkers complete it over several holidays. It is nearly entirely in France with minor incursions into Switzerland and Italy and takes in some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in Europe.
Well illustrated throughout with maps and photos, all in colour.
By Paddy Dillon, who, according to a note in the guide, wrote this book by updating his palmtop computer every few steps. Whilst this should mean that it's unerringly accurate, it's a wonder he actually manged to finish!
