An illustrated PDF guide to sea stack climbing in the UK and Ireland, including Old Harry, The Old Man of Stoer, Am Buachaille, The Maiden, The Old Man of Hoy and over 200 more!

There are some 550 climbs, spread across about 390 stacks, listed in this compilation with around 70 stacks in England, 10 in Wales, 55 in Ireland and 275 in Scotland. Of these about a 110 are located around the coasts of Shetland, and of these, about 80 are around the coast of Mainland.

This is a unique guide to some seriously adventurous climbing and a variety of kit not normally associated with rock climbing may be required, such as a boat, tide tables, warthogs, a sledge hammer and iron stakes. An ability to swim, and take vegetation, loose rock and guano in one's stride will also be found useful. Not to mention a keen interest in the weather forecast.

The guide is well illustrated with maps and photos, but for obvious reasons very few of the descriptions have been checked. Stacks in any case are prone to all the elements can throw at them so changes to the routes described are more than likely to have occurred in many cases.

By Chris Mellor (with a little help from some of these island's foremost sea stack aficionados).
