According to MSR, "the fastest-boiling, most fuel-efficient all-condition stove system ever made. It offers unprecedented performance in challenging conditions, including superior wind protection and consistent flame output at all temperatures, elevations, and fuel levels. It's also compact and easy to use, comprising a patent-pending canister stove and a high-efficiency 2.5-litre pot with a see through lid that makes it great for everything from solo trips to cooking for groups of up to three people."

The patent-pending radiant burner is enclosed by heat exchanger for total protection in even the windiest conditions and this means that the Reactor is the most efficient all-conditions stove system, so you don't have to carry as much fuel. This state-of-the-art stove and high-efficiency pot are combined into one compact, easy-to-use system. An internal regulator equalises fuel pressure for optimal performance in all conditions and at all fuel levels.

Although it will not work above 6500m, but it is probably the most outstanding snow melter available of any gas stove. There is a good comparison of it with a Jetboil on larsonweb.com. There is also a very positive review of the Reactor Stove and a good comparison with the Jetboil equivalent on the Rock & Ice Magazine Website.

Boils 0.5 litres of water in just 1.5 minutes.

Weight (not including gas cylinder) 588g.

NB Gas cylinder not included!

MSR Reactor Instructions.

We have received two reports from customers who had this stove cut out on them on an expedition where it was their only stove leading to epic retreats down the mountain. This cut out feature is an essential safety feature that is necessary due to the high temperatures this stove can reach.

Nearly always when Reactors fail it is due to users NOT lighting the burner over the MSR logo on the top of the stove and/or NOT using a sustained fire source such as a lighter - you should NOT use a fire steel with these stoves!

Always light from the top. Lighting from the side has the potential to cause under burn, which is where the fire is inside the stove rather than above the burner head. It can be recognised by a roaring noise, but is a rapid way of killing the stove.

Another cause of failure is users turning the stove upside down when lit and fitting their own home made pot stands to them.

If on an expedition, this stove will outperform every other gas stove on the market, but it is essential that you have a spare stove with you.

If your Reactor stove fails and it is less than three years old then MSR will consider replacing it under warranty. If it is older, or it has obviously failed due to user error, you will need to buy an entire new Reactor Burner Unit (417300) which cost £125 in 2017, but may have gone up by the time you read this.
