Aluminium Heads (or Aluminum Heads if you're a Yank) are designed to be quick to bash in and so are particularly useful in awkward situations or when you are really tired, but are best suited to good placements as their holding power is not as good as Copper Heads.

This double version is ideal for smears that are long and narrow. Two strands enhance its strength and ability to be placed in smaller cracks.

Copper Heads and Aluminium Heads (otherwise known as Mashies) are extreme big wall equipment designed for direct aid where the only method of progress is to bash them into dimples and depressions in the rock and hope that they hold when you put your full weight on them. Naturally they are not CE (or any other sort of) tested and are most definitely not to be used for normal trad climbing!
