A very useful device that can take one or two ropes and is the best device for safeguarding abseils when installed below your abseil device (usually clipped to a leg loop). Can also be used as an ascender.

NB The Shunt has in the past also much used for self belaying - however there are serious dangers with this, particularly on overhanging routes where the lever can get become depressed against your body, and also that, if the Shunt becomes inverted, the Rope Can Become Completely Detached. We therefore do not recommend the Petzl Shunt for self top-roping.
