Ice hooks can be bashed in where ice screws or normal rock gear won't work - quick hook placement in hollow ice, shallow turf ledges and ice smears too thin for a screw. They are also great for whacking into iced up cracks.
It has what DMM describe as a "positive removal fin" which is a lump that you can hit to remove it, lightening holes to keep the weight down and can also be hooked with an axe to help extraction and a double Dyneema loop so you can shorten it for carrying and extend it when placed.
This is a new slightly lighter version of a tried and trusted favourite.
Rather dangerous to carry on your harness!
