The MSR Lightning Ascent are probably the best snowshoe for more technical use available in our opinion, giving superb performance on steep and rugged terrain and now feature the advanced Paragon™ binding: designed to wrap securely around your boot without pressure points, the binding’s mesh strap ensures maximum foot control with truly uncompromised comfort. They have heel lifters for steep slopes so that your calf muscles are always on a level platform, and the 20cm wide frame, cut from a single, vertical blade of aerospace-grade aluminium, delivers really grippy traction especially on traverses. Hinged steel crampons add extra security on icy ground, and the weatherproof, non-freezing and glove-friendly bindings are easy to use.
This women's version is slightly narrower than the men's.
Two lengths are available: 22" or 56cm and 25" or 64cm - the length you need depends on your weight (see chart below). In addition, Flotation Tails are available as an add on product and can be useful in deep powder conditions. In 2020 they retailed at £55/pair including VAT.
