Firewall Pants are stretch waterproof overtrousers using Pertex Shield® + 3-layer fabric and are ideal for use in alpine or winter conditions where freedom of movement is essential.
 
3/4 length fully waterproof YKK® AquaGuard® 3-way side zips allow for high levels of breathability due to the possibility of using the zips as vents, so extending the use of Firewall Pants to high aerobic activities mixed environments. To save weight, there is no fly, instead there is a partly elasticated gripped waistband. Knee articulations assist with technical climbing. Little loops at either side of the foot hem allow for the attachment of cord to tie under winter boots to stop them riding up in the snow.
 
Although the zips aren't full length it would be fairly easy to put these trousers on whilst wearing crampons.

Pertex Shield + is an improved version of Pertex Shield with higher waterproofness 20,000mm hydrostatic head (ie the depth of water that can sit on top of the fabric without it leaking) and good breathability of 20,000 MVTR (Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate measured in g/m2/24 hours). This compares with 10,000 hydrostatic head and 6,000 - 7,000 MVTR for standard Pertex Shield.

Pertex Shield + also compares well with much more expensive fabrics like Gore-tex Pro-shell which has a  28,000mm hydrostatic head and breathability of 25,000 MVTR.
